Our first trip to two canoes, to each his own boat, to each his meditations.
This notebook is dedicated to my daughter Amélie,
because before leaving I had, like her, underestimated her ability to be a vagabond.
When she unrolls this notebook, she is just waiting to leave together with her canoe.
We thought that this trip would be very different from that of 2017, indeed it was really a notch above, as much in the emotions of our father-daughter relationship, as through the meetings that took place.
The title is also a tribute because without my daughter, without Israfil and Tarja, there would be less emotion in this notebook.
This notebook is also a Christmas gift for my daughter, because it is not compulsory to consume excessively to show her that I love her.

On the way for a portage of 10 kilometers. The four wheels are put in place to erase the swaying of the canoe which quickly becomes unbearable.
After a few images that take too long to be produced,
we fix the camera on Amélie’s canoe and move on.
I have to set up micro breaks, always because of my limb which is limping.
We try to help ourselves with trekking poles, we will join a tarmac road which will be the biggest portion of the portage.
Amélie embarks on the climb that leads to the national road and I stay behind her to help her push the bow of her canoe, while I pull mine, or rather while my canoe pulls me back with all its weight , much larger than that of Amélie. We climb three quarters of the hill, then Amélie blocks, she can no longer move forward, the weight of her canoe begins to drag her back, making her motionless on her legs, she freezes completely leaning towards before as a counterweight.
I explain to her that I will have to drop her canoe, pass in front of her and go and put my canoe at the side of the road to come back to help her, we did not take out the brakes and it is a nice mistake. I mentally prepare myself for a few seconds and I tear off all the weight of my load up the hill, I know Amélie is watching and she wonders how I can get there !
I come to the side of the road with endless leg pain, and I go straight to help Amélie, who is still parked on the hill and who is reaching the end of her physical limits.
It's only a question of age and physical strength, because the mind already has it !
We find ourselves on a national that we did not think as crowded and which will reserve us a funny surprise.
The trucks are chained together and they gobble us up with dust and a particularly unpleasant aggressive feeling.
The din and the smell disgust us to have been there !
The din and the smell disgust us to have been there !
When the trucks pass, we park, the weights of the canoes ask to be able to pull them without having to do anything else and some trucks do not move enough to reassure us.
There are exceptional convoys and as the vehicles only arrive in waves of 20 or 30 vehicles which all follow each other religiously, this is suspect !
We have 8 kilometers to complete on this road and we understand that it will be hell dioxin. After this wave of vehicles, the next one will march on our side 3 minutes later.
We undergo our choice and it is really a crappy portage in terms of the conditions and the environment in which it takes place.
However, it is still time to adapt, because there is no other more reasonable choice.
The explanation is that the road is in alternating traffic, we pass in front of the stopped motorists, who for some film us when others look at us taken aback. We still receive a majority of greetings from the hand and smiles that seem to want to encourage us.
How good it will be to find the cocoon of our tent this evening.
The road is under construction and a completely new asphalt is being laid! The smell is unhealthy, hot, and sticky.
The workers watch us go by with an indifference that suits us a little, but I frankly throw them a "Hello workers". Then without stopping, I ask them if it is a demonstration of yellow vests that takes place, but there is only Amélie to laugh at my valve too easy !
They are progressing unlike us and the asphalt that we run alongside is still so hot that the vapors stun us and give us a headache.
The descent to reach the water is so steep that it requires that I help you to hold your canoe.
You will have pulled your canoe all alone during the whole portage. Pride still has nothing to do with it. It is only to have the courage of his ideas.
It was while passing in front of a service station that we celebrated the end of the portage by offering two huge ice creams, swallowed up too quickly !

Installed at the water's edge, a Finn who lives near the farm and who saw us pass on the road in front of his house come to join us for an uncertain dialogue. He welcomes us and says to the translator: "It's good to welcome travelers"
Her curiosity is beyond doubt, as is the sympathy of her welcome.
We show him the article about us and which acts as a business card, especially since it is the last trip to Finland made in 2017.
I thank him for his tolerance since we settled in without asking anything and without suspecting that he would come to visit us !
I tell him that he did well to come because suddenly, we offer him two boxes of Hénaff pâté ... Who in all these years that we offer, could have thought of offering us free boxes for such a promotion !!
I knew that his curiosity was deep. No Finn has ever allowed himself to want to get into the privacy of our tent, they usually talk to us while staying away from the doors.
So we openly invite him to come back because he is communicating a really positive mood.
He always wears a small smile, and in Finland, it is an outward sign of human wealth !
He will come back the next morning just to greet us. We will leave the place after our rest day passing in front of his house in canoes.
