Our first trip to two canoes, to each his own boat, to each his meditations.
This notebook is dedicated to my daughter Amélie,
because before leaving I had, like her, underestimated her ability to be a vagabond.
When she unrolls this notebook, she is just waiting to leave together with her canoe.
We thought that this trip would be very different from that of 2017, indeed it was really a notch above, as much in the emotions of our father-daughter relationship, as through the meetings that took place.
The title is also a tribute because without my daughter, without Israfil and Tarja, there would be less emotion in this notebook.
This notebook is also a Christmas gift for my daughter, because it is not compulsory to consume excessively to show her that I love her.

Le compte-rendu : Préambule (mise à jour : 31 déc. 2019)
Once at the cabin it was a shock: The food we left on site this winter was stolen: 7kg of chocolate, around thirty dehydrated soups, tins of sardines, also pâté and two gas cartridges. A sauna window is broken and the only piece of furniture in the place has been seriously shaken, but there is nothing to really determine what really happened here. Everything is repaired and cleaned within the next hour, but being robbed in a cabin where the key is still on the door was a possible risk.
The wood shelter has collapsed since we left last winter, I will take care of it at the end of this trip.
We decide to embark on a canoe on July 1st, so we have 4 days left to find a place to put half of our food stock and finish preparing the canoe that stayed there during the winter.
We will leave with 7 bags of 90 liters. None is fully filled, because it is better to distribute the weight by dividing it, rather than concentrating everything in a few bags which will be a pain to bear. There is also a tent and its nylon flysheet to take away. But do not ask us the exact total weight, the figures seem to us too capitalist to refer to it. It is not the weight of what we take away that counts, it is knowing that life has a term and that we must therefore consider it with lightness.
I put the Kevlar reinforcements on Amélie’s canoe and the advantage of going on two canoes is that I can take food without asking too many questions. Our total carrying capacity and such, that we have seriously diversified the choice of our food which allows our autonomy.
Amélie dismantles the front seat which has become bulky and at the same time, she begins to build an independence which she had never had to manage before: several kilos of cashew nuts and dried fruits need to be managed with care. .. She admits !
I put the knees in his canoe even if we imagine at that moment that Amélie will use her electric motor to move forward.
June 30, we head to Antolla, 70 km away, to try to find a tourist guide who should be able to help us store the other half of our food.
It is thanks to Eero that we met Tiina during the last winter, she is the first kayaker to have organized tourist circuits in kayaks in the Luonteri region.

We ask her to keep half of our food, but she explains that she does not know if it will be available when we arrive in Antolla, about a month after our departure by canoe.
Tiina tells us about the campsite located at the water's edge 2km from Antolla, the Lakeistenranta Camping.
Located on the shore at the bottom of the image, the frame is ideal for canoe refueling.

There is no expectation that certain encounters could have such an impact on his own life.
Here is the key man of the trip: Israfil Bhuiyan.
Arrived in Finland in 1991, I know your story by heart.
I have so much admiration and respect for you and your family that nothing prevents me from abdicating and recognizing it.

Nothing can determine what becomes of humans, but at the time of this image no one suspects the relationship that will develop between us. Israfil has a sense of humanity that seems to match the one I cultivate, differently.

Israfil agrees to keep half of our food and tries not to accept the gifts we have planned to thank him for the service rendered, but we do not leave him the choice!
No matter how much I want to take our boxes, he explains that he wants to know if he is able to carry them! The heaviest is around 50 kilos and his overflowing kindness is beyond doubt.

he asked his wife Tarja for permission to respond favorably to our request. Arrived in Finland, Israfil learned Finnish in six months, so much that he graduated to be a translator, he speaks English, Finnish, Hindi and Bengali, but also a little Russian, Japanese and the friendliness of French.
The campsite is open from mid June until the end of August and the rest of the year they live in Helsinki with their two daughters, Sara and Rania. Of course I offered to push the wheelbarrow, but nothing helps !

His English is impeccable and exemplary, and his impressive Finnish, the Finns themselves recognize that he masters the language in an exceptional way. I explain to Amélie that I feel that we have just met someone remarkable. After spending half an hour together, we leave with an appointment in 30 to 40 days. Before leaving, Israfil simply asked us how Amélie's mother had died, I saw there, the obvious sign of her attention towards us.
The campsite has existed since 1966 and it was Tarja's father, pictured, who owned it, and then sold everything to them because they wanted to buy everything.
Tarja is so shy that it is difficult to access them, and with Israfil they have formed for more than twenty five years, an atypical and perfectly tuned couple knowing how to manage their possible disagreements. Their innate kindness gives people like us the feeling that life is worth living.
